Perhaps this summer you will find yourself sitting on the beach, on a plane, or relaxing comfortably in bed reading a book. Did you know that reading brings many benefits including: stress reduction, improved sleep, improved focus, increases vocabulary and improves communication skills. The benefits of reading are endless. Don't let losing track of your place stop you from reading.
Instead of folding pages to save your spot, why not make a bookmark to take with you? Homemade bookmarks can be customized any way you like. It is an easy, fast craft that can be done in a snap before you take your vacation.Â
Simple Bookmark
Flat embellishments for decorations
Ribbons, twine, or hemp
Bookmarks are traditionally 2 x 6 inches in length. Cut aparts from your favorite paper pack are perfect for this project. Stickers, acetate, die cuts, and elements from paper punches make great embellishments for your bookmark. Avoid 3D elements because they have the potential to damage the book or even tear holes in the paper. A hole can be punched in the top of the bookmark to add decorative tassel.
Magnetic Bookmark
Small neodymium Magnets or flat adhesive back magnets.
Flat embellishments for decorations
Paper punches
Clear drying adhesive
The magnet will keep the bookmark from falling out. Bookmarks are traditionally 2 x 6Â inches in length. You can make adjustments to the length as you see fit. The finished size of this book mark is 2 x 3 inches. Fold the paper strip in half to slide over the top of the page. When you are attaching the magnets they should be facing each other so they snap together. The magnets can be covered with paper and embellishments to hide them if desired.Â
