Media is defined as the tools and supplies that an artist uses to create a piece of art. Mixed media is the use of more than one medium to create a project. Mixed media can be two or three dimensional. If you enjoy stamping and watercoloring to create a handmade card, you are creating a mixed media project. 

Experimenting with different supplies can be very rewarding. Using different items can stretch creative muscles. Playing with new materials can be stress relieving. It allows us to let go of perfectionism and embrace failure. Playing with a new supply allows us to expand our creative repertoire.

When starting to experiment with new supplies, try asking a few questions. How can I combine brads and twine on a card front? Can I use embossing powders on balsa wood tags? How does crackle paste look on the cover of a journal?
